Back Market - Redesign an app
The goal of this challenge was to redesign a famous app.
This project is all about UI design: I chose to redesign the “Back Market” app, a platform to buy second hand electronics.
The choices I made led to a design translating the essence of sustainability.
Role - UI Designer
Team - Individual
Project duration - 3 days

Overview
This challenge was about replicating some screens of the app to understand how the app was designed. I chose to redo the four pages from the Nav-Bar.
It made me figure out the ''glow and grow points'': the great features and the ones that could be improved.
For this project I worked on the market place Back Market, a french unicorn selling second hand electronic devices.
I had the chance to attend a conference they held about how to improve a product value with a good story telling.
That led me to work on their app.

Heuristic
Back Market is the leader of the market. They’ve got a few direct competitor in France, like Yes Yes, Largo and Recommerce.
They have a lot of indirect competitors, big companies like Leboncoin, Amazon, Fnac/Darty, Boulanger… But for them it’s not their main business, they’re not pure player on this field!
The first thing that comes to mind is that there’s nothing to criticize about the flow on their app. The few elements I found were not properly displayed once in dark mode. Also, I found that the product page was lacking a search bar.

Moodboard & Ideation
Black and white with imperfect but not overwhelming background taken from sustainable plastic texture, to keep the product central.
The headers use a comic book type of typography (Black Cooper) plus bubbles on titles to empathize with the user even more. The icons have been redesigned with hand drawing, complementing on the same ideas.
My goal in terms of design was to translate the essence of sustainability. Using a second hand product is accepting flaws, it’s natural, unique. My artistic inspirations were Les accumulations d’Arman, Les idées Noires of Franquin, and a sustainable material, the recycled plastic, a material full of imperfections and without pattern.
